Done Grooming Unless

Unless we get six inches of snow today, we are done grooming for the year.  Thank you for your support this year, and do your snow dance next year early.  It was a very poor snow year this season.

Grooming Report

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Depending on elevation, there is 2 to 6 inches of new snow in the canyon from this weekend. It was nice to have some new snow to groom with last night. The forecast is for warmer than normal this weekend, so this may be our last week of grooming.

I’m going to the hill climbs in Jackson Hole this weekend, and our other groomers have training this week, so we will not groom the canyon Friday night.

Trails have been groomed on:
Amazon 3/19
Beaver Creek    3/19
Franklin Basin    3/19
Garden City      Done for the Year
Tony Grove       3/19
Sinks Trail         3/18
Swan flat          3/16
Temple             3/18 Half way

Out of State Snowmobile Permits are being sold at the following locations:

Bear Lake State Park – Marina
1035 North Bear Lake Blvd
Garden City, UT 84028

The Top 3 violations in Logan Canyon

Anyone 17 and younger must wear a helmet when operating or being a passenger on a snowmobile, ATV or motorcycle.

Off highway vehicles must be registered before transporting or operating on public roads or land. Registration stickers must be displayed (stuck on the machine) along with the month sticker. Do not carry them in your bag and think that is good enough. It’s not!!! The decals will stick on the tunnel and hood very well if the machine is warm when you stick them on. Placing them on the belly pan will get ripped off when riding in deep snow.

Anyone (Utah resident or non-resident) between the age of 8 and 15 must posses Utah Safety Certificate to operate a snowmobile, ATV, or Motorcycle in Utah. To sign up for a classes at www.stateparks.utah.gov

After spending a week up Franklin Basin we finaly got the snowcat off the mountain. We have made a few runs with the cat this week, and it seems to be running fine so far.

The snow is melting fast and is very mushy during the day and ice hard at night. We will keep grooming unless it rains on us this weekend. If it rains we may be done in the lower parts like Tony Grove and Franklin Basin.

Snowcat Dead on the Mountain

Last Saturday night while grooming up Franklin Basin, the fuel pump went out on the cat by the Idaho line.  Two attempts have been made by our shop people to get it fixed.  There is a new fuel pump on the cat, but now it still won't start.  We will be back up there on Friday 3/9 to try again.  Sorry for the bad trails.

Grooming Report & Snowcat Repair

Thursday, March 01, 2012

There is two feet of new snow at the top of Beaver Creek now, so be really carful. The shop boys came up and replaced the fan clutch and switch on the cat to solve our over-heating problem yesterday. I was able to groom Beaver Creek and the Amazon finally. It was in very bad shape, as some of you might have seen. We should be good to go for the rest of the season, so cross your fingers.

Grooming Report

Saturday, February 25, 2012

We are getting some new snow up in the canyon this week, along with a lot of wind. We will do our best to push back the drifts in the higher elevations.

We are having problems with the snowcat not running right. The engine keeps going into safe mode, and we think the hydraulics is getting too hot. We are going to have our shop come up Tuesday to service the cat and see if they can fix the hydraulic cooler. We are still in the diagnose part of this, so we need to take it out Sunday to figure out what is going on. Thanks for your patience with us this year.

We will not be gooming tonight because of the high winds today.

Grooming Report

WE had over heating problems while grooming the sinks trail, so we did not get down to Temple Canyon Thursday night.  Sorry.  The cat ran great today when I groomed Swan Flat and part way down Garden City, so not sure why it over heated last night???
