Grooming Report for 1/13/16

We were able to get our snowcat up and running again (loose solenoid on the rear hydraulic block). On Wednesday the 13th, we groomed out over Sage Valley as far as Deer Valley. On the way back, we went up the Lava Beds trail and groomed it back to Midway. Be aware that there appears to be a timber operation going on near the Lava Beds trail and they have plowed out the first half mile or so of our trail for the log trucks, so we groomed just to the side of the old trail until we got past the logging work. We plan to groom the Cedar Breaks/High Mountain trail on Friday the 15th. For information or questions, contact Michael Franklin or Dean Anderson at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park – 435-648-2800 or coralpink@utah.gov.

Grooming Report for Cedar Mountain – 1/11/16
Unfortunate news to report – our groomer has some mechanical issues and we won’t be able to groom again until we get them figured out and fixed. We’re working on it and will let you know as soon as we can get it up and running again. For information or questions, contact Michael Franklin or Dean Anderson at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park – 435-648-2800 or coralpink@utah.gov.

Grooming Report for 1-8-16

Sorry for the gap since the last grooming report. This week’s storms on Cedar Mountain have dropped 2-3 feet of powder on the mountain and made conditions such that we haven’t seen for a couple of years. There is very deep powder over much of the mountain, which has made grooming somewhat slow and difficult. But we were able to groom the Cedar Breaks/High Mountain trail on Wednesday the 6th in between storms, so it probably got covered by the second storm, which dropped most of the powder. On Thursday the 7th, we groomed from Midway to Sage Valley and only as far as Deer Valley, but on Friday the 8th we groomed the Navajo Lake trail and the Duck Creek Ridge trail as far as the timber sale area and back to Midway. We won’t be able to get back up and do Lava Beds until Monday the 11th, so be safe up there. Be very careful of the deep powder and be sure to travel with enough people to help get unstuck if you get into a drift. For information or questions, contact Michael Franklin or Dean Anderson at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park – 435-648-2800 or coralpink@utah.gov.

Grooming Report for 12/29/15

We got a little new snow from the Christmas weekend storm, but not a whole lot. There is still not quite 2 feet at our measuring stick at the Sage Valley turnoff. We were able to groom the Cedar Breaks/High Mountain trail again on Monday the 28th. We plan to do Navajo Lake tonight on the 29th, and the Lava Beds trail on Thursday the 31st. Conditions are pretty good, but with only a couple feet of snow, please watch out for stumps and rocks and other obstacles that may be just under the surface. For information or questions, contact Michael Franklin or Dean Anderson at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park – 435-648-2800 or coralpink@utah.gov.

Grooming Report for 12/19/15.

We got enough snow to start grooming on Cedar Mountain, so on Thursday the 17th we groomed the Cedar Breaks/High Mountain trail, and on Friday the 18th, we went out through Sage Valley, across Highway 14 and towards Duck Creek Ridge. About ½ a mile west of the USFS Ranger Station, there is a big logging operation in progress, and the trail has been cleared for their equipment.   There is still snow on the road, and it seems to be passable for sleds, but watch for equipment and other vehicles. We plan to get back up on Sunday the 20th to do either Lava Beds or Navajo Lake, but we’ll determine that when we see the conditions.
Due to the holidays and manpower limitations, we probably won’t get back up until sometime around the 28th of December. Be careful on the mountain and enjoy the holiday. For information or questions, contact Michael Franklin or Dean Anderson at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park – 435-648-2800 or coralpink@utah.gov.

2015-2016 Grooming Season Start

Welcome to the 2015-2016 Snow Grooming season on Cedar Mountain.  We haven't started grooming yet, but we just wanted to get things started here on the website.  There is some snow up on the mountain, but not enough for us to start grooming yet.  We'll keep an eye on things and let you know when we get things going.  Hopefully, this year will be a better snow year than the last couple of years.  We should be about due.  Stay tuned and we'll update as conditions change.  Be safe and have a great winter!
