Grooming Report for 2/22/2014

We have not been up to groom on Cedar Mountain since last weekend.  There still isn’t enough snow to run the groomer anywhere off the pavement.  The forecast is calling for possible snow this coming weekend (Feb 27-28), so we’ll take another look at it then and see if we can get out on Friday night.  It’s been a pretty skimpy year for snow on Cedar Mountain, and we can only hope for some late season storms to build up the snowpack.  If you have any questions, contact Dean Anderson or Michael Franklin at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report for 2/14/2014

On Thursday the 13th, we were able to groom the Lava Beds trail as far as the first cattle guard.  The snow was getting too thin and too much mud and rocks showing, so we turned around there. We also groomed the Cedar Breaks/Brian Head trail as far as the water tank in Brian Head.  Again, the snow was getting thin and we turned around at the water tank.  The warm weather has softened and compacted the snow that is up on the mountain and there are rocks and stumps showing through in numerous places, so be careful.  There is only 18 inches showing at our measuring stick at the Sage Valley turnoff.  If you have any questions, contact Dean Anderson or Michael Franklin at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report for 2/12/2014

On Tuesday the 11th, we were finally able to groom through Sage Valley and over towards Duck Creek.  There are still some thin spots in the snow (especially at the gravel pit near the crossing of Hwy 14), but we got as far as the Forest Service Ranger Station at Duck Creek. The area of the trail that parallels Hwy 14 is being logged this winter and the trail has been plowed down, so we couldn't groom through that section.  There is some snow on the ground through there for the sleds, however.  There is a Poker Run scheduled for Saturday the 15th, so we plan to groom the Cedar Breaks/Brian Head trail and the Lava Beds trail on Thursday the 13th to get ready for the Poker Run.    Our measuring stick at the Sage Valley turnoff is only showing about 18 inches, so the snow we have is wet and compacted.  Please watch for hazards such as logs, stumps and rocks under the snow.  If you have any questions, contact Dean Anderson or Michael Franklin at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report for 2/5/2014

We have gotten a few inches of new snow on Cedar Mountain recently and we were able to make a grooming run through Cedar Breaks on Tuesday the 4th.  We only went as far as the crossing of Hwy 143, but conditions appear better than the have been.  Hopefully the coming storm will give us enough to start grooming the other trails.  We’ll take another look after the weekend and let you know.  If you have any questions, contact Dean Anderson or Michael Franklin at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report for 1/24/2014

Nothing new to report on Cedar Mountain.  There has been no significant new snow for several weeks and there is still not enough snow to run the groomer safely.  We’re still looking and hoping for more snow soon, but the season only has about 6 weeks left and things don’t look promising.  We’ll keep watching and if conditions improve, we’ll post it as soon as we can.  If you have any questions, contact Dean Anderson or Michael Franklin at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

(Non-) Grooming Report for 1/11/2014

There is still not enough snow on Cedar Mountain for us to do any grooming.  Much of what is up there is compacted and too thin to run the snowcat and groomer safely.  The forecasts are not very encouraging, but we can always hope.  If you have any questions, contact Dean Anderson or Michael Franklin at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report for 1/2/14

We haven’t been able to groom lately due to the lack of snow.  There are bare patches of asphalt on the road through Cedar Breaks and not enough snow depth to safely groom off the pavement at all.  We are still hoping for more snow, but the forecast isn’t encouraging.  We’ll keep an eye on it and post more information as it becomes available.  If you have any questions, contact Dean Anderson or Michael Franklin at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report for 12/20/13

We were able to go up and groom through Cedar Breaks on Thursday the 19th.  The snow is very thin, with bare pavement showing in some places.  There was light powder falling through the evening, but not much was expected.  We’ll try and get up there again sometime late next week – after Christmas.  Hopefully, the new year will bring us more snow and better conditions. If you have any questions, contact Dean Anderson or Michael Franklin at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report for 12/17/13

We are going to try another grooming run through Cedar Breaks this week – probably Thursday the 19th.  Still no new snow and the snow cover is still pretty thin, so conditions are marginal for grooming.  We’ll hope for a white Christmas and better conditions soon. If you have any questions, contact Dean Anderson or Michael Franklin at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report for 12/12/2013

We tried another grooming run through Cedar Breaks on Wednesday the 11th.  We were able to get all the way through Brian Head and out to the High Mountain overlook, but the snow was so thin it was dangerous to operate the snowcat – too many rocks and stumps.  We’re going to have to wait for more snow before we try it again.  We will continue to groom through Cedar Breaks as far as the crossing of Hwy 143 as long as conditions permit, but the other trails will have to wait for more snow.  Our measuring stick at the Sage Valley turnoff is only showing about 18 inches. If you have any questions, contact Dean Anderson or Michael Franklin at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.
