Grooming Report 1-20-2013

Sunday, January 20, 2013
We were able to groom the Sage Valley/Duck Creek Ridge trail on Saturday the 19th, but when we were almost back to Midway, we encountered some problems with the snowcat that will need addressing before we will be able to groom again. So for the time being, we have done all we can do until we get the cat fixed. The snow is showing right at 2 feet at the Sage Valley turnoff, but is getting pretty thin at the lower elevations and south facing slopes. Also, apparently it was necessary for some loggers to plow out about 1/3 of a mile of our trail near where it parallels Highway 14, just west of the Navajo Lake crossing, so watch for that and be careful. If you have any questions, call Michael Franklin or Dean Anderson at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report 1-14-13

Monday, January 14, 2013
On Friday the 11th, we were able to groom the Brian Head/High Mountain trail, and on Sunday the 13th we groomed Navajo Lake and the Duck Creek Ridge trail as far as the Forest Service Ranger Station. We have some training this week, so we probably won’t get back out until Friday the 18th when we’ll do the Brian Head trail again. The snow is still thin in spots so be careful. The turnoff to Sage Valley is showing just over 2 feet. If you have any questions, call Michael Franklin or Dean Anderson at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report 1-10-13

Friday, January 10, 2013
With the winter storm moving in Thursday afternoon, it was decided not to try and groom until after the storm passes. So we now plan to groom the Brian Head/High Mountain trail on Saturday the 12th and work our way through the other trails after that. We did get the snow cat up and running (we hope), so we’ll try and get going on the new snow after the storm. If you have any questions, call Michael Franklin or Dean Anderson at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report for 1-9-12

Wednesday, January 09, 2013
We were able to get the snowcat running and were able to do the Lava Beds trail on Tuesday the 8th. We plan to do Navajo Lake on Thursday the 10th and Brian Head/High Mountain on Friday the 11th. The snow was kind of minimal on the Lava Beds trail, with some rocks and bushes still visible. Our measuring stick at the Sage Valley turnoff is only showing about 22 inches of snow, and SNOTEL is reporting 36 inches at Midway. There is a storm in the forecast for Thursday and Friday, so that may change the schedule a bit. If you have any questions, call Michael Franklin or Dean Anderson at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report 1/3/13

Thursday, January 3, 2013
We went up to groom on Wednesday the 2nd, but there seems to be a problem with the fuel system in our new groomer, and we weren’t able to finish the run, and probably won’t be able to groom again until we get it looked at – probably next week sometime. There are no major storms in the forecast, so hopefully, the trails will be OK for travel until we get the groomer fixed. If you have any questions, call Michael Franklin or Dean Anderson at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report for 12-30-2012

Sunday, December 30, 2012
On Friday, the 29th, we were able to groom the Cedar Breaks/Brian Head trail all the way out to High Mountain. We plan to go back up Sunday the 30th and try the trail through Sage Valley to Navajo Lake. We’re not sure about the snow depth through there, so we’ll have to wait and see if there is enough to operate the groomer safely. . If you have any questions, call Michael Franklin or Dean Anderson at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.

Grooming Report 12-22-2012

Saturday, December 22, 2012
We got our snowcat delivered this week and were able to get one run in so far. On Friday the 21st, we groomed the Cedar Breaks trail from Midway as far as where the trail crosses Highway 143. The snow is still a little thin in places, so we’ll have to see how it goes before we can do the trails at the lower elevations. With the holidays coming up, it may be late next week before we can get up there and groom again. If you have any questions, call Michael Franklin or Dean Anderson at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park at 435-648-2800.
