Grooming Report January 7, 2013

 Beaver Mountain

We groomed the entire Beaver Mountain trail on Thursday, January 3.  Snow is 36" deep and very powdery on top.  Excellent snowmobiling conditions.

City Creek Trailhead:  6" of snow on the level, 2-4" packed snow on the trail for the first couple of miles up.  UDOT is not plowing the road to the trailhead, so it's a slick drive the last three miles.

Puffer Lake Trailhead:  Road is clear, snow is very deep.  We knocked down the snowbank at the end of the parking lot leaving an nice ramp to access the trail.

Kent's Lake Trailhead:  Road is clear.  Snow is packed very tight for the first few miles do to heavy use.  We took most of the bumps out and now it's good to go.

Monroe Mountain

We groomed the entire Monroe Mountain trail on Friday, January 4.  Snow on top is 20-30" deep and powdery.  Use caution on Monroe Mountain where logging operations took place over fall.  There are numerous trees and limbs buried in the trail and snow levels are only 12-15".  The trail down the west side into Monrovian Park is bare in some spots, exposed rocks, or packe very tightly.  Ride with caution.

Koosharem Trailhead:  2" of snow on the level, 1-2" of packed snow on the trail.

Monrovian Park Trailhead:  5" of snow on the level, 2-4" of packed snow on the trail.

Fishlake to Gooseberry

This trail is currently being groomed--Monday, January 7.

Fishlake Trailhead:  Very little snow for five miles on the highway, with just a few drifts.  We cannot take a snowcat on this section of the trail.

Gooseberry Trailhead:  10" of snow on the level, 4-6" of packed snow on the trail.

Sand Ledges

This trail is currently being evaluated for snow levels and possible grooming--Monday, January 7.

Highway 24 (Sand Ledges) Trailhead:  4" of snow on the level 1-2" of packed snowon the trail.

On 3/3/2012 Fish Lake was groomed from Bowery Haven north towards Gooseberry. We could only get to just south of the pass due to an uphill grade with a large drift. The snow cat could not get through it, so we returned to Bowery Haven.

On 3/4/2012 we attempted to groom Monroe Mountain starting from Koosharem. Shortly after unloading the snow cat, the left track locked up and would not move. The snow cat is currently in the shop for repairs.

We will keep you informed as to when we get the repairs done.

I checked the trail heads today and here is what I found.

City Creek out of Junction has 2-3 inches of snow with vehicular and ATV tracks going up the trail.

Koosharem has 2-3 inches of snow with vehicular and ATV tracks going up the trail.

Bowery Haven at Fish Lake: The road to Seven mile has 1-2 inches of wind swept snow with bare spots. I was told by some folks that Seven mile has more snow but is also wind swept. Fish Lake has open water north of Fish Lake Lodge.

Gooseberry has 3-4 inches of packed snow with snow mobile tracks going up the trail.

Sand Ledges has 2-3 inches of snow with vehicular and ATV tracks going up the trail.

Monrovian Park has 2-3 inches of snow.

Until we get more snow at these lower elevations we cannot safely groom without damage to the snow cat.
