Grooming Report 3/20/2013

Quick update on trail conditons.  Slushy in lower elevations, including trailhead at Hardware Ranch.  Hopefully this next round of storms will produce enough snow to groom a few more times before the season is over.  The signs up at the trail head and on ant flat road are still in effect because of the snow conditions on the trails, please be patient on driving your wheeled vehicles up the trails, we want to keep grooming and keep the trails in great condition until the season comes to a close.

Tonight I groomed the Hell's Hollow Loop trail. Snow conditions were very soft and getting thinner still. I also did some drift cutting on the Cottonwood trail to the first gravel pit. Get out and enjoy some spring riding and stay safe.

grooming report 2/23/13

Tonight the Hells Hollow loop was groomed. There was 2 or 3 inches of new snow on the trail and had quit snowing when I went out. Trails are in great shape except for the cross country route between saddle creek and elk valley, the snow is still thin there.

grooming report 2/22/13

Tonight I groomed the Bug Lake Loop. There is more snow in rock creek than expected so riding conditions should be great this weekend. Hopefully it doesn't drift back over too bad as there was wind and blowing snow most of the night. The trails on some of the the south facing slopes are still covered but without more snow there could be bare spots soon.

2/17/2013 Grooming report

2/17/2013

A wild ride for ANDY LEE!   We need to give him a round of applause!   He groomed 60 miles last night.  Nearly the entire complex!  Groomed Hell's Hollow Loop.  Thin snow conditions over the overland trail and through the gorge, so use good judgement.  Cottonwood and Johson's Ranch up to the gravel pit was also groomed last night.  Go out and enjoy the Hardware Ranch Complex!

2/1/13

Finally some snow worth talking about..Thursday night I Groomed the Hells Hollow loop. There are still a few thin spots at Danish Dugway and the Gorge, although much better than they were. We had anywhere between 4 and 16 inches of new snow. Friday night I started the Bug Lake loop however I did not connect to Redspur due to what I thought was a serious mechanical problem. I went through Johnson ranch up to Bug Lake with next best turn around until I get back being New Canyon Jct. When I got back to the shed and got the snow cat cleaned off, repair will be simple. Better safe than sorry.

Enjoy the new snow and be sure to check avalanche conditions before traveling into the back country.

1/11/13 Grooming report

 Where's the snow,

I groomed the Hell's Hollow loop on Friday night and was disappointed to find only 1 to 4 inches of new snow.

The cross country trails are still showing sage brush.. I am still hitting an occasional rock (and dirt) thru out most of the trails in the complex. Lets hope for more snow and stay safe.

12/31/2012-Second Packing Run

12/31/2012

2nd Packing run complete.  This time we hit the Cottonwood Canyon Run up to Round Valley.  The run was fairly nice, we did run into some areas that only had a few inches of snow.   So take caution leaving the trail on this run as well.  We are hoping to get more snow this week to groom the Bug Lake run.  Remember to also check avalanche conditions before you ride at   http://utahavalanchecenter.org/

Please plan a visit to Hardware Ranch on your route.  Hardware is currently open and the elk would be excited to see you.  Please visit http://wildlife.utah.gov/hardwareranch/activities.php   for hours of operation and on going activities.  A favorite stop for many of our sledders.

12/29/2012

1st Packing run completed for the season!  A very momentous occasion.  From Hardware Ranch Management Area to Hells Hollow.  Elk Valley Guard Station overland routes and through the ever fun play area of Strawberry Valley.  The gorge is not done this go round, due to the lack of snow.  Little did we know there was not as much snow as we had planned for.  At some spots you could feel a rock or two and the occasional sagebrush would pop up out from under the snow.

Take care if you leave the groomed trail, there  are some spots with little snow.  The packing runs should help keep snow on the trail, but the overland routes and play areas may not have the depth your sleds will need.
