Grooming report for 1/15/15

This last series of storms did not put down as much snow as I had hoped in the Mirror Lake/ Mill Hollow areas, only about 6-8” of the white stuff. Still very good conditions for some off trail riding. Today I groomed all of Soapstone, Cold Springs, Hwy 35, and up to Mill Hollow. The trails are in excellent condition. The bad news is the snow cat broke down so we may miss tomorrows run but should not be a problem since the trails are in good shape. Hopefully we will be back on schedule by Saturday. Remember to check out the avalanche conditions at http://utahavalanchecenter.org/ before venturing out. Please ride safe and return home to your family, be prepared with all the proper survival gear. Register your snowmobile as the funds pay for the grooming program which is a very expensive project. Our snow cat may be on the trails at any time so please use caution. Our typical grooming schedule will be as follows: Subject to change for weather or repairs.

Friday and Saturday- Soapstone, Mill Hollow, Lake Creek Trail Head.
Monday- Mirror Lake
Thursday- Soapstone, Cold Springs, Hwy 35

Grooming Report for 12/24/14

We finally have enough snow to start grooming. Today I groomed the Soapstone trail and snow depths were respectable with about 2-3 feet of snow. Riding was better than I anticipated. We will start grooming on a limited basis until we get more snow and they close Hwy 35 which may be soon. We will groom on Friday and Saturday this weekend in the Soapstone, Cold Springs, and Mirror Lake areas.

No grooming report for 12/11/14

As of 12/11/14 we do not have enough snow to start grooming. Hopefully we will get some storms soon so we can start before Christmas. There is about 2' of snow up high so I would stick to the trails for now. Hwy 150 is closed but Hwy 35 remains open. Do the snow dance!!!

Grooming update 4/4/2014 last grooming of season

Grooming update for Mirror Lake /Mill Hollow 4/4/2014

As of April 4, 2014, we had received about one feet of new snow on top. On top there is about four to five feet of snow with fair to poor amounts at the trailheads.  The trails are in good shape the warm weather is starting to be a challenge for us to keep the lower levels smooth.  Thursday Soapstone, Cold Springs, Wolf Creek to the Nobblets parking area and up Mill hollow to Duchesne ridge were groomed. Our grooming season is at an end. The best trailhead with the best snow and access is going to be Soapstone. The highway 35 is lacking on snow at the lower levels. The trails may get bumpy but there is still some good spring type riding to be had on the tops of all the mountains. Watch out for danger while riding. The Avalanche danger is still High. Make sure you are wearing a beacon. Ride safe and enjoy the snow. Our grooming is ended for this season.

You can find a copy of our grooming schedule on this website at http://www.snowut.com that you can print out. Remember that all our runs are done at night but we may be on the trail at any time so ride under control at all times.

Remember to go out prepared including survival and avalanche gear. Check on the avalanche conditions by going to www.avalanche.org  Ride safe and we will see you on the trails!!!

Grooming Report for 3/6/14

Groomed Mirror Lake Hwy today up to Murdock Basin turnoff. Trail was in great shape and there was no need to waste fuel, especially with the snow storm predicted for today and tomorrow. These warm temperatures are making it very difficult to groom as the snow just wants to ball up in front of the blade and not cut and fill like it should. Therefore the trails are a little rough. What we need is a couple days of cold weather and the Mogul Master and then we can knock down the bumps. Avalanche danger is a follows:

BOTTOM LINE

While not widespread, above treeline in the wind zone, a CONSIDERABLE danger exists and human triggered avalanches are probable on all steep, wind drifted slopes, particularly those facing the north half of the compass. Once triggered, today's avalanches can break deep and wide, creating a very dangerous slide.

Strong sunshine will increase the avalanche danger to MODERATE during the heat of the day and human triggered avalanches will become possible on steep sun exposed slopes as the snow starts to bake.

Our Schedule this week will be:

Thursday- Hwy 150 from Soapstone to Mirror Lake

Friday and Saturday- Soapstone, Hwy 35 from Soapstone to Mill Hollow, Mill Hollow, Lake Creek

Monday- Soapstone, Cold Springs, Hwy 35.

Remember to ride safe and be prepared for all conditions. Day time temperatures may be in the 40s but drop well into single digits at night so always carry your survival gear. Be Safe.

Grooming report for 2/27/14

Groomed Mirror Lake Hwy today using the Mogul Master, trail is in great shape. We are trying to catch up on some of the other trails as they are a little bumpy but we are hopefully going to run with the Mogul Master all weekend and get them in great shape. The forecast calls for rain/snow 8 out of the next 10 days which is great news. The temperatures will be on the warmer side so the lower elevation snow may be heavy but up higher it should improve. Please ride safe as we have had several accidents lately which severe consequences. The avalanche conditions are as follows:

bottom line
In the wind zone at upper elevations, the avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE today. Human triggered avalanches are probable on all steep, wind drifted slopes, particularly those facing the north half of the compass and especially those with an easterly component to their aspect. Once triggered, today's avalanches can break deep and wide, creating a very dangerous slide.
A MODERATE avalanche danger is found at mid elevations and human triggered avalanches are possible on steep, wind drifted slopes.
LOW avalanche danger is found on gentle slopes with no steep terrain above or adjacent to where you're riding.
Our Schedule this week will be

Thursday- Hwy 150 from Soapstone to Mirror Lake
Friday and Saturday- Soapstone, Hwy 35 from Soapstone to Mill Hollow, Mill Hollow, Lake Creek
Monday- Soapstone, Cold Springs, Hwy 35.

Remember to ride safe and be prepared for all conditions. Day time temperatures may be in the 40s but drop well into single digits at night so always carry your survival gear. Be Safe.
