Grooming Report for 1/10/14

Hello fellow powder lovers. I say that because we finally received some decent snow fall. Trial Lake is showing about 13” of new snow over the last couple of days, bringing the total depth to 46”. The good news is that the new snow will allow us to start grooming Hwy 35 and especially Mill Hollow. We may not be able to go all the way down to the Noblett’s or Hanna Trail Head but should be able to get close. With that being said we will be able to start a somewhat full schedule. Training next week will make us adjust our schedule somewhat.  An avalanche danger. Both human triggered and natural avalanches are likely. Dangerous avalanche conditions exist on steep wind drifted slopes. The new snow comes with a dark lining in that it may lure you into a false sense of security. There are still A-arm busting gremlins just under the surface of the snow waiting to ruin your day. We have had a fair number of accidents in the last several weeks involving both damage to machines and personal injury, so please ride safe. Here is what we have planned for the weekend

Friday- Soapstone, Hwy 35 from Soapstone turnoff to Noblett’s Trail Head, Mill Hollow to the Lake Creek Summit, Lake Creek Summit to the Lake Creek Trail Head.
Saturday- Soapstone, Hwy 35 from Soapstone turnoff to Noblett’s Trail Head, Mill Hollow to the Lake Creek Summit, Lake Creek Summit to the Lake Creek Trail Head.
You can find a copy of our grooming schedule on this website at http://www.snowut.com that you can print out. We typically run in the late afternoon however some runs are done earlier in the day. We may be on the trail at any time so please ride under control.
Remember to go out prepared including survival and avalanche gear. Check on the avalanche conditions by going to www.avalanche.org Ride safe and we will see you on the trails!!!

Grooming update 1/09/2014

Grooming update for Mirror Lake /Mill Hollow 1/9/2014

As of January 9, 2014, we had received some good new snow with the past few storms and are hoping the weather gives us more.  Due to lower snow totals, we are not doing all our grooming runs yet.  On top there is about three to four feet of snow with fair amounts at the trailheads. We received over ten inches or more so far from the storms.  The trails are in good shape.  Tuesday: Soapstone over to HWY 35 was groomed. The Cold Springs Loop was groomed from HWY 35 the top of Wolf Creek to Soapstone summit. Due to low snow levels on the road we could not go any further down to Hanna.  The Mirror Lake Highway up to Mirror Lake was groomed on Thursday. The mill hollow up to lake creek summit was groomed today.  Both groomers reported blizzard like conditions on top.  As of right now UDOT has stopped plowing highway 35. They have stated it is closed. It may be passable by a vehicle, but it is a use at your own risk condition. There are no plowed pull offs for parking or for turning trailers around.  When the snow is over a foot on the road grooming may resume on highway 35. We will keep you updated with information as we get it. Watch out for danger while riding. The Avalanche danger is still high. Make sure you are wearing a beacon. Ride safe and enjoy the snow.

You can find a copy of our grooming schedule on this website at http://www.snowut.com that you can print out. Remember that all our runs are done at night but we may be on the trail at any time so ride under control at all times.

Grooming Report for 1/2/14

Hello all. The winter that started out so great has become a big disappointment as we have not gotten much new snow in a couple of weeks. The snow depths are about 3 feet up high. There are still lots of stumps and obstacles out there so be careful. Some very disappointing news is that they are planning on plowing Hwy 35 all winter as part of the feasibility study that UDOT is doing. This means that we will not be able to access any of the Mill Hollow and Lake Creek areas. The trails will become very bumpy in short order. Not sure yet if you will be able to park at the Noblett's Trail Head and ride from there or have to park on the shoulder of the road at Mill Hollow or near the summit. We will be modifying our grooming schedule as follows. Monday, Friday, Saturday- Soapstone and Cold Springs, Thursday- Mirror Lake.

Grooming Report 12/19/13

Good new! We have started grooming the Soapstone, Cold springs, and Mirror Lake Hwy. The bad news is that they continue to plow Hwy 35, Wolf Creek Hwy, which prevents us from grooming the Mill Hollow and Lake Creek areas of our complex. We will start grooming those areas when they stop plowing Hwy 35. You can access the Mill Hollow and Wolf Creek areas by parking on the shoulder of the road but it is very limited as there is no parking.

Grooming Report for 11/26/13

Well winter is trying to get going with some good early season snow. Just keep doing the snow dance as we need a lot more snow before we consider grooming. Mirror Lake Hwy is not being plowed any more so you can drive up to the snow and unload. Hwy 35 is still being plowed so you can drive to the summit and unload there. conditions are still early season with lots of rocks, logs, etc. just waiting to put your sled in the shop for repairs and possibly you for repairs as well so be careful! We are hoping to start grooming by Mid-December but that depends on the snow. Remember to always go out prepared to spend the night just in case! Early season snow is susceptible to avalanche as well so play it safe. We will update this once we start grooming.

Grooming Report for 3/28/13

We are wrapping up our grooming season. First off the trailheads are becoming bare with lots of dirt and asphalt showing. Secondly the very warm temperatures make for difficult grooming, and thirdly you should be camping and fishing at Rockport, hanging out with the awesome Rangers!! We did groom the entire complex yesterday, today, and tomorrow but after that we are done. We did move our snowcat from the snowcat shed to Soapstone and managed to squeeze out a couple more weeks. This goes to show you how dedicated we are as most people would just throw in the towel as running out of Soapstone is a challenge with no warm building, hauling fuel, and hiking into the snowcat. Have a great safe summer and be sure to visit Rockport for some great camping and water recreation!
