Finally some new snow! We got about 8-12 inches of snow over the last several days and riding conditions have improved greatly. With the new snow comes a considerable avalanche danger. Please check the conditions before you go out at http://utahavalanchecenter.org/. Remember avalanches can happen where you least expect it and small slopes with terrain traps such as gullies and creek bottoms can be especially dangerous as was evident with the tragic accident last week. Please make sure to carry the proper gear and let someone know where you are going. Go out prepared to spend the night and then if you unexpectedly have to you will be prepared. We are on schedule and you will find the trails in great shape.

Grooming Update – January 26th, 2013

As of January 26th, still not much change in conditions from last report. We received a miniscule amount of snow on Thursday. There is just over three feet of snow in the Trial Lake area so we are still not seeing huge amounts.  Even less at the trail heads with about one to two feet. Snow is expected Sunday. The trails are in decent shape.  We did our grooming runs on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The avalanche warning for the Uinta’s area has not changed and is still a low to moderate warning—beacons still needed.
You can find a copy of our grooming schedule on this website at http://www.snowut.com which you can print.  Remember that most of our runs are done at night (Thursday run up Hwy 150 to Mirror Lake is done during the day); the Sno-cat, however, may be on the trail at any time so ride under control and anticipate seeing it.
Remember to always go out prepared. Bring survival and avalanche gear.  Check on the avalanche conditions by going to www.avalanche.org.  Ride safe and we will see you on the trails!!!

Grooming Update - January 18, 2013

As of January 18th, not much change in conditions from last report. There is still about four to five feet of snow on top with approximately two feet at the trailheads. The trails are in decent shape.  We had some difficulty with our sno-cat during this week so Monday’s run was aborted.  The avalanche warning for the Uinta’s area is low to moderate, but still make sure you are wearing a beacon. Ride safe and enjoy the snow.

This week we are back on track with our grooming schedule. Today  Soapstone to Nobblets and up some of Mill Hollow was done. Grooming continues this week with no new snow and extremely cold temperatures. Temperatures have been below zero with little warming during the day. Please go out prepared for th worse case scenario. If you get stuck or lost you should be well prepared to spend the night until searchers can find you. That being said, we had sevearal close calls this week with lost snowmobilers but luckily all turned out OK. Remember to check the avalanche conditions. The snow pack is still shallow in the Uintas and we have had several accidents with injuries and expensive damage to sleds. We are on schedule for grooming this weekend so the trails are in great shape, finding untouched powder however is becoming a little difficult since we have not had any storms recently.

Grooming has begun full bore and the conditions have improved dramatically this week with about 2' of new snow. With the additional snow comes considerable avalanche danger so please use extreme caution and check the avalanche conditions before heading out (http://utahavalanchecenter.org/). Grooming this week produced world class snowmobile trails that I am sure all will appreciate. If you have not riden (rode?) the newly groomed Cold Springs loop you need to try it. It gives good access to some great open meadow riding with some challenging hills. We are on schedule and the trails should be in great shape for the weekend. Again please be safe as we have many snowmobiling accidents resulting in injuries and death each year. Make sure your snowmobile is registered and your decals are displayed before heading out so you don't have to deal with the "mean" Rangers. See you on the slopes!!

Grooming Report for 12/22/12

We have begun grooming!!  We could start earlier if 2 things would happen. 1. We will be following our normal schedule most of the winter which is the following.

Mondays- Soapstone, Noblett's, Mill Hollow

Wednesday- Soapstone, Cold Springs, Wolf Creek Summit to Hanna Trail Head

Thursday- Hwy 150 from Soapstone to Mirror Lake

Friday and Saturday- Soapstone, Noblett's, Mill Hollow, Lake Creek

We will follow this schedule unless we have breakdowns or severe weather. Remember to check the avalanche conditions and ride safe.
