Grooming update January 11

Grooming update for Mirror Lake /Mill Hollow 01/11/2013

As of January 11 the snow condition Improved over this past week. We had a storm leave about one to two feet of new snow on the top. On top there is about four to five feet of snow with about two feet at the trailheads.  The trails are in fair shape. This past week a few grooming runs were missed. Wednesday Soapstone to the cold springs loop was groomed and down to the Hanna trailhead and back to Soapstone. The Thursday Mirror Lake run was skipped. This week we are back on track with our grooming schedule. Today  Soapstone to Nobblets and up some of Mill Hollow was done. Due to the storm we cut the Lake Creek run out; visibility was poor on top. Saturday we will groom Soapstone to Mill Hollow and down to the Lake Creek trailhead.   Watch out for danger while riding. With the new snow the Avalanche danger is moderate to considerable. Make sure you are wearing a beacon. Ride safe and enjoy the snow.

You can find a copy of our grooming schedule on this website at http://www.snowut.com that you can print out. Remember that all our runs are done at night but we may be on the trail at any time so ride under control at all times.

Remember to go out prepared including survival and avalanche gear. Check on the avalanche conditions by going to www.avalanche.org  Ride safe and we will see you on the trails!!!

Grooming continues this week with no new snow and extremely cold temperatures. Temperatures have been below zero with little warming during the day. Please go out prepared for th worse case scenario. If you get stuck or lost you should be well prepared to spend the night until searchers can find you. That being said, we had sevearal close calls this week with lost snowmobilers but luckily all turned out OK. Remember to check the avalanche conditions. The snow pack is still shallow in the Uintas and we have had several accidents with injuries and expensive damage to sleds. We are on schedule for grooming this weekend so the trails are in great shape, finding untouched powder however is becoming a little difficult since we have not had any storms recently.

Grooming has begun full bore and the conditions have improved dramatically this week with about 2' of new snow. With the additional snow comes considerable avalanche danger so please use extreme caution and check the avalanche conditions before heading out (http://utahavalanchecenter.org/). Grooming this week produced world class snowmobile trails that I am sure all will appreciate. If you have not riden (rode?) the newly groomed Cold Springs loop you need to try it. It gives good access to some great open meadow riding with some challenging hills. We are on schedule and the trails should be in great shape for the weekend. Again please be safe as we have many snowmobiling accidents resulting in injuries and death each year. Make sure your snowmobile is registered and your decals are displayed before heading out so you don't have to deal with the "mean" Rangers. See you on the slopes!!

Grooming Report for 12/22/12

We have begun grooming!!  We could start earlier if 2 things would happen. 1. Move our snowcat shed to Soapstone to avoid the 3 mile North Fork Trail which requires more snow coverage than the rest of our complex. 2. If UDOT would stop plowing Hwy 35 earlier in December. We will be following our normal schedule most of the winter which is the following.

Mondays- Soapstone, Noblett's, Mill Hollow

Wednesday- Soapstone, Cold Springs, Wolf Creek Summit to Hanna Trail Head

Thursday- Hwy 150 from Soapstone to Mirror Lake

Friday and Saturday- Soapstone, Noblett's, Mill Hollow, Lake Creek

We will follow this schedule unless we have breakdowns or severe weather. Remember to check the avalanche conditions and ride safe.

As of March 22 the snow condition Improved over this past weekend we had a few small storms pass by leaving about two feet on new snow on the top. With the warm weather the new snow is not lasting at the lower levels.  On top there is about four feet of snow with about one foot or less at the trailheads.  The trails are in poor shape. The nobblets to mill hollow is melting fast there is still enough snow to get up on for now but you can see the black top in spots.   This week we are a little off track with our grooming schedule. Tuesday we groomed Mirror Lake. Wednesday we groomed Soapstone to Mill Hollow to Lake Creek summit down to Nobblets and as far as we could towards Hanna on highway 35 and the cold springs area.  Watch out for danger while riding. With the new snow the Avalanche danger is still moderate to High. Make sure you are wearing a beacon. Ride safe and enjoy the snow. The Grooming runs are only going to be done after new storms due to the lack of snow at the lower levels. Check back to see what was groomed we will do our best to keep the trails as smooth as we can without damaging our groomer.

Grooming Report for 1/27/12

We received about 4" of new snow last night. That brings our depth to about 4' in the higher elevations and 2' at the trailheads. Use caution as objects are still lurking under the snow just waiting to take out your $300 trailing arm. We are on schedule for grooming and snow conditions are good. Remember avalanche conditions remain high so be careful. Please print out our grooming schedule as we follow that unless we have a break down or severe weather.
