We groomed COOP Creek to Lake Creek and the top of Strawberry River today.  New snow at the higher elevations but was melting fast at the lower elevations.  This is more than likely the last grooming run we will make this season due to the snow conditions and warming temperatures.

February 20, 2014

This last week we were able to get caught up on the big storm rthat came through a week and half ago.  That snow was very heavy and took at least two runs per trail to clean up.  We were able to do this and then our groomer broke down.  The groomer is now fixed and we will be taking it out tomorrow and doing Clyde Creek/ Mud Creek/Indian Creek, cleaning up the train into the warming huts and coming out Trail Hollow.  We will try and get to COOP Creek and Strawberry River Saturday.  If not Saturday we will do that run on Monday.  Please check on alvalanche conditions before heading out. Be  prepared and stay safe.

Grooming Report 2/14/2014

Happy Valentines Day. The Groomer has been out a few times this week. On Tuesday we groomed Mud Creek, Clyde Creek, Trail Hollow and Indian Creek. On Wednesday we groomed CO-OP to the Lake creek trail head and then back down Strawberry River. Today we groomed Mud Creek and Clyde Creek. Lots of snow up top so it takes a while to get the trails looking nice. The trails are in fair to good condition.

The snow is nice a fluffy up top and wet and heavy in the valley.

Avalanche danger will be EXTREMELY HIGH so use caution when out in the backcountry.

Make sure to check the http://utahavalanchecenter.org/ before you go and have the proper avalanche gear when you go out.

Be Safe and Have a good time.

The groomer was out last week but that is probably not relevant now with the new snow fall total.  As soon as the storms and high winds stop we will get out and bust open the trails as fast as possible.  Right now we are putting a lot of our effort in keeping the parking lots at Strawberry open.  Tomorrow will attempt to open up Mud Creek and Clyde Creek.  *(Will not go out until the weather improves a little).  The groomer is scheduled for COOP Creek to Lake Creek, Strawberry River on Monday.  Tuesday will try and open up Indian Creek and Trail Hollow.  Avalanche danger will be extremely high.  Snow totals to date and have been over two feet at higher elevation and that is predicted to increase  with additional storms passing through the Strawberry area over the next week.

GROOMING REPORT FEB 1, 2014

Thursday afternoon we groomed from CO-OP Trail Head to just above the Lake Creek Summit and then down Strawberry River.

CO-OP trail is in excellent condition, Strawberry River is still kind of rough.

The cut off road between Strawberry River and CO-OP has also been groomed for the first time this year. It is thin in some spots with vegetation showing which is mostly Sage Brush.

We received about a 1-2 feet of new snow around Tower Mountain and Lake Creek summit. A Large Pine tree about 3 Feet in diameter fell across the Strawberry River Trail. The tree has been cut and removed from the trail.

Saturday night we groomed the South side of HWY-40. This is first time this season that we have been able to get the cat this far south. The cat went to the Marina, Indian Creek, and Trail Hollow. Lot of snow near the warming hut. The warming hut trail was NOT groomed, but we hope to get down there later this week.

From HWY-40 to the Marina turn off it is thin in some spots with vegetation showing which is mostly Sage Brush

We have some SNOW in the forecast for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. I know it's hard to believe. Hopefully with the new snow we will be able to get into our regular schedule.

Make sure you never go alone, tell someone where you are going and when to expect you back and always wear your beacon and Helmet. Remember to go out prepared including survival and avalanche gear. Check on the avalanche conditions by going to www.avalanche.org

Be safe out there.. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Yesterday we groomed CO-OP creek to Lake Creek and back.  Last night we groomed Mud Creek and Clyde Creek.  Only a few inches of snow at Highway 40 elevation.  We will continue to groom CO-OP and Lake Creek but the lack of snow on the valley floor is making it hard to transport the snow cat to the trial south of Strawberry Reservoir.
