GROOMING REPORT FEB 1, 2014

Thursday afternoon we groomed from CO-OP Trail Head to just above the Lake Creek Summit and then down Strawberry River.

CO-OP trail is in excellent condition, Strawberry River is still kind of rough.

The cut off road between Strawberry River and CO-OP has also been groomed for the first time this year. It is thin in some spots with vegetation showing which is mostly Sage Brush.

We received about a 1-2 feet of new snow around Tower Mountain and Lake Creek summit. A Large Pine tree about 3 Feet in diameter fell across the Strawberry River Trail. The tree has been cut and removed from the trail.

Saturday night we groomed the South side of HWY-40. This is first time this season that we have been able to get the cat this far south. The cat went to the Marina, Indian Creek, and Trail Hollow. Lot of snow near the warming hut. The warming hut trail was NOT groomed, but we hope to get down there later this week.

From HWY-40 to the Marina turn off it is thin in some spots with vegetation showing which is mostly Sage Brush

We have some SNOW in the forecast for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. I know it's hard to believe. Hopefully with the new snow we will be able to get into our regular schedule.

Make sure you never go alone, tell someone where you are going and when to expect you back and always wear your beacon and Helmet. Remember to go out prepared including survival and avalanche gear. Check on the avalanche conditions by going to www.avalanche.org

Be safe out there.. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Yesterday we groomed CO-OP creek to Lake Creek and back.  Last night we groomed Mud Creek and Clyde Creek.  Only a few inches of snow at Highway 40 elevation.  We will continue to groom CO-OP and Lake Creek but the lack of snow on the valley floor is making it hard to transport the snow cat to the trial south of Strawberry Reservoir.

Yesterday we groomed from CO-OP trail head to the Lake Creek trailhead and back.  Lake Creek is receiving high use, expect the trail to be rough even with the grooming.  There was approximately a foot of new snow in some areas at the higher elevation.  The last three days as seen high winds in the Strawberry area.  Pleas contact the avalanche forecast center before heading out.  We did not get enough snow at Higher 40 to gain access to all of the trails including the Strawberry River Trail head.

Saturday night we groomed from CO-OP trail Head to just above the Lake Creek Trail Head.  Yesterday we groomed CO-OP to Strawberry River Trail Head and back.  We will not be able to groom Strawberry River again until we get more snow.  It was very difficult using the blade due to the lack of snow so the trail is better than what it was but still a little rough.  CO-OP trail is in excellent condition.  We will continue to groom CO-OP to Lake Creek.  Will do it again this Thursday or Friday.  Expecting some snow later this week but it is not looking like it will be everything we need.  There is still not enough snow to get over to the south side of 40.  Clyde Creek, Mud Creek and Indian Creek can not be groomed until we get additional snow at the lower elevation.  This is to protect the Snow Cat from damage.  Will continue to update report as we groom.

Yesterday we groomed up CO-OP Creek to Tower Mountain and back. Not much snow at lower elevation, more as you get higher up. No base to what is there at the higher elevations. Sugary snow. Be careful when you leave the trail for rock and vegetation. Going to do the same run tomorrow night if all goes well. Will try and go down Lake Creek as far as we can go. Monday we will try and do this run again and will also attempt to get to the Strawberry River Trail Head. We will update after each run. Still need more snow at lower elevation to do Clyde Creek, Mud Creek and Indian Creek areas.

Well sports fans, it's that time of year again.  Rangers are out marking trails and moving some of the hazards.  It wont be long before we can expect to see all that good white fluffy stuff falling.  Everyone needs to start doing their snow dance.  We need a really heavy winter with lots and lots of snowfall if we want to have water in our reservoirs next summer.

As always I will give you regular updates when we start grooming.  If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Well sports fans....It's that time of year when the snow conditions are such that we just can't groom any more.  I was hoping that we would be able to stretch it a bit longer, but there just isn't enough on the lower areas to get us up to the high areas.  So, I regret to say we are now finished for the season.  If the snow conditions change, I will personally get in that groomer and make a run or two, but I'm affraid that won't be the case.

Let me share with you a little about our season.  We groomed over 2667 miles and put a little over 400 hours on the snow cat.  Not too shabby if you ask me.  We had a great grooming team this year and they all worked hard to give you a good riding area.  I hope you enjoyed your time in the back country.

If you should still find yourself venturing out, please, please be careful and wear all your protective gear.  That includes a beacon.

If you have any questions for us, feel free to drop us a line.

It has been a pleasure serving as your Utah State Parks Strawberry Snowmobile Complex grooming team.

Good Afternoon Sledders...

Today was a great run.  The cat went up Strawberry River to the Lake Creek Summit, then down Coop.  We did it in reverse to see if we couldn't make that Strawberry River trail any smoother.  I think we did well.

There's lots of snow up top.  It's wet, but it's new stuff.  Be careful out there.

Tomorrow we will hit the South side of Hwy 40.  That means Clyde Creek, Mud Creek, Indian Creek, Trail Hollow, the Marina, and whatever else we have time and fuel for.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Well, the good news is that it's snowing.  That will help lengthen our wonderful play season.  The cat went out of Friday for the Clyde Creek, Mud Creek, Marina, Indian Creek, and Trail Hollow run.  There were no problems.  Trails look good.  The cat is out right now doing Coop and Strawberry River.  Hopefully it makes it through with this storm without having to turn around.

This storm brings new possibilities of danger.  Make sure you never go alone, and always wear your beacon.

Be safe.

Greetings fellow riders...

Today the Coop/Strawberry River trails were groomed.  Snow conditions are wind blown.  Up high that's good news because it's like a brand new winter wonderland.  Down low it's just hard and crusty.  Trails look good though.  You should be able to enjoy yourselves...
