On Sunday the 23rd, the snow cat went up Co-op Trail to Tower Mountain and back down Co-op.  There is a good amount of snow up on the higher elevations, but be careful down low as the snow pack is still low.  As we were grooming the trail we could see a few avalanches so be careful where you are riding and check the avalanche report before you go out. The snow cat will not be going out again until after Christmas, so everyone have a happy holiday, and be safe.

 Good News...

The Cat was able to hit  Clyde Creek and Mud Creek on Thursday, then Co-op and Strawberry River today.  Now here's the bad news.  There is hardly any snow down low.  Certainly not enough to chance taking the groomer out again until we get a good snow that provides some base for the snow cat.  I'm sure you all agree that it's better to wait then to damage the Cat and not have it.  That being said, the upper elevations are groomed and a nice visible trail has been blazed.

I understand that a storm is coming Christmas eve, so I'm planning on sending the Cat out after than.  Fingers crossed.

Be Safe.

Now...all that being said, I was able to take the groomer out today to do Clyde Creek and Mud Creek.  The upper elevations are full of heavy powder that made the Cat work really hard.  The lower elevations have so little snow that it really can't be attempted again until we get more snow.  Unfortunately if there isn't enough down low, the Cat just isn't able to go out.  So until further notice, the Mud Creek/Clyde Creek, Trail Hollow, Indian Creek runs will be put on hold.  Tomorrow we will be sending the Cat up Co-op Creek and down Strawberry River as far as they can.  I will let you know how that run goes.

So pray for lots of snow this holiday season so we can start grooming.

Thats all for now.  Be safe

As of today we have not started grooming at Strawberry.  We need just a little more snow at the lower elevations to safely get the cat around.  We will continue to update from this point on.

Last Monday we groomed CO-OP to Lake Creek and the top of Strawberry River.  We are getting very warm temperatures at Strawberry for this time of the year.  As of right now we are putting the grooming runs on hold and more than likely we will be done for the year.  Expect trails to be rough due to the warm weather.

We were able to groom Clyde Creek and Mudd Creek again on Sunday.  Cleaned up the top.  Starvation groomed CO-OP to Lake Creek on Monday.  Snow is good at higher elevations.  Starting to melt at lower elevations.  We will try and groom CO-OP and Strawberry River before the weekend and the assess Clyde Creek, Mudd Creek and Indian Creek.  The problem is getting the groomer from Highway 40 up and into the higher elevations.  Tracking the groomer without enough snow if very hard on the equipment.

Sorry for the late update, but I have good news!!  On Friday, we were able to groom Indian Creek and Trail Hollow loop during the day.  That night another operator groomed the Mud Creek and Clyde Creek loop.  On Thursday, we were able to go up CO-OP to Lake Creek summit, and down Strawberry. We were also able to make it across Lew's Cutoff, so that entire loop was groomed on Thursday.  If you are going to go on that trail today (Saturday) watch out for the cat because it may be on the trail grooming some more.  Keep praying for snow so that we can continue grooming all of the loops!!

Also the avalanche conditions may be high today due to all of the new snow.  Make sure that you check what those conditions are before you go out and always wear a beacon!

Have fun and stay safe!!!

Additional update:  The connecting trail between Clyde Creek and Mudd Creek at the top could not be groomed.  The groomer become stuck several times and would power out before being able to bust through some of the drifts and deeper snow.  We will tray again once the snow settles a little.

Groomed CO-OP to Lake Creek yesterday.  Received approximately 12 " of new snow in the last 24 hours at highway 40 elevation.  Will attempt to groom CO-OP to Lake Creek on Thursday.  Indian Creek, Sheep Creek, Trail Hollow, Mudd Creek and Clyde Creek on Friday.  We are still not into the routine found on the cover page for Strawberry Complex.  I will keep posting updates on where we have been and snow conditions.

Avalanche danger is very high.  Please go to the avalanche link on this web page for the current condition in the area you are planning to ride.  Travel in pairs, carry avalanche beacons and some form of communication with extra batteries.  A GPS unit could be invaluable if lost and you can make communication with someone.  Be prepared for spending the night outdoors in winter conditions.

www.stateparks.utah.gov  is another good link for current OHV laws and safety education classes that are required for younger riders.  Thanks, please be safe, prepared and have fun!
