3/17 update

I wanted to let everyone know that we've completed grooming operations for the seasons.  The warm weather has melted the road to a point we cannot safely get the groomer up the highway.  Thanks for a great season.

I anticipate that we will open the gate this weekend (3/20) and allow trucks and trailers to park at Bear River Ranger Station (BRRS).  There is currently snow from BRRS.  We're currently plowing the lot to accommodate parking and a turn around.

2/19 update

We are still grooming regurally to Whitney, Elizabeth, and Mirror Lake.  We will continue to groom until conditions don't allow access.  As of today, there is mostly pavement between the gate and the bridge.  There are some bare spots for from the bridge to Bear River Ranger Station.

2014/15 Grooming Update

The 2014/15 season is upon us.

We groom four days a week.  Three of the days are spent grooming from Bear River to Mirror Lake, Whitney, and as far east as necessary.  The fourth day is spent touching up for the weekend.

As of late December, the snow is very thin.  Be careful out there.

12/10 Update

We're still need a couple good storms before we start grooming.  Snow on the highway does not begin until Christmas Meadows.

The gate is open for now.  The few riders are trailering up the highway until they find a good place to unload.

Highway 150

The Highway 150 gate is open.  The snow has receeded approximately 2 miles past Bear River.

Overall, riding conditions are very poor.  Many nights we're not getting substantial refreeze.  If you do venture out be very aware of hidden hazards due to thin, Spring conditions.

Whitney Update

We've started grooming to Mirror Lake & Whitney.  We groom at least once per week and more if necessary.  I will update if anything changes.

Be aware that the North Slope Road is plowed this winter for logging operations.  The road is gated and snowmachines are allowed.

12/26/2013

I wanted to send out a quick update.

We have not started grooming yet for 2013/2014.  Our cat is down and we are working hard to get it up and running.  If everything works out we should be out next week. Once we are back we plan on grooming everything once a week.  Our regular schedule is Whitney on Monday, North Slope for Tuesday and Wednesday, Mirror Lake on Thursday, and Friday to pick up anywhere that needs additional grooming.

I was out today and the whoops were not too bad.  Snow if very thin in the lower country.  Many hazards are waiting just under the snow.  Up higher, the snow was much deeper and I felt more comfortable getting off the main trail.

Be advised that the North Slope Road is plowed this year.  The plowing lasts approximately 5 miles.  This affects folks wanting to ride Mill Creek or Elizabeth.  You can travel over the plowed road but please keep your speed down and watch for log trucks.

2014 season

Hello,

With winter in the air I wanted to pass along an update.  At Bear River these is a few inches.  Along the road most snow has burned off until Whitney turn off.  Up top we have gotten around 18".

I also wanted to make everyone aware of logging operations in the area.  During the 2014 season the road leaving east to Mill Creek will be plowed.  This is approximately seven miles.  We asked the operator to leave a few inches so snowmachines can navigate and we can get the cat through.

Grooming Update

Last week (March 11-15) was our last week of full-time grooming.  Starting March 19th we are grooming as needed and as conditions allow.

As spring progresses, and lower elevation snow melts, we will open the gate and allow riders to trailer machines up the highway.  I will update you when we open the gate.

There is still enjoyable riding in the higher elevations.  The melt/freeze cycle we went through produced a firm, supportable base.

Grooming Report - 2/23

Be aware of hazards off the groomed trails.  Especially in low country where stumps and rocks are lurking.  Hopefully the 10+ inches forecasted for this weekend will improve off-trail conditions.

Do not forget to check the avalanche forecast before heading out - www.utahavalanchecenter.org - This is also a great site to get a sense of riding conditions.  Ted Scroggin provides frequent observations from the North Slope that include snow and riding conditions.  From the Utah Avalanche Center's website select Detailed Info/All The Good Stuff/Uintas.
